I love the piece on, well... karma. And the intoxication of power. People talk to me about who they think should be elected to this or that office in DC and I keep reminding people that whoever goes there, steps into that den of power - will be swallowed by its Jeckle/Hyde effect.
I hand an inkling of how that happens one day when I was 21 years old and had the opportunity to drive a Rolls Royce out of La Jolla, through the streets of San Diego, and across the border into Mexico. As I sat in that car and looked through tinted glass windows at the people looking at the car from the sidewalk, I imagined that they might be wondering if we were rock stars or rich Hollywood famous people in the car. I got all swollen in my ego center. It shocked me. I instantly knew that I was as vulnerable to becoming an arrogant, ruthless crusher of my fellow humans as the next guy. I’m glad to have caught that drift at such a young age. And I know that I would be vulnerable to the disease of power were it dropped into my lap today.
I think that, as a society, we need to remove envy from our script. If we were to not envy powerful people, then maybe we would not aspire to such toxic heights. Just a thought...
The story about Sir Countrywide... I am not proud of my vulnerability to feel vindictive rage. In the end, I am such a silly human.

Perfect! Although I sure wish that the universe wasn't providing you with this abundance of topics. Nothing personal, you understand -- I wish you a happy profusion of work -- it's just what a sorry thing our country is so rife with all these blatant ethical violations.

Loved the article...thanks for sending. This guy just looks like a crook. Never did I ever understand why B of A took a flyer on Countrywide.

For a tanned viper wearing silk ties to foster a scheme such as subprime mortgages in a wide and beautiful country such as this, the scam required many, many, MANY stupid little mice. Greedy, short-sighted mice who, in some ways, felt a certain sense of entitlement, albeit on a much, MUCH smaller scale than Mr. Asp. Just ask any farmer in this wide and beautiful country what happens when there are too many hungry rodents ... The snakes are sure to follow.

Very good! If only the Overseer had enough smart people to truly oversee what goes on!

With nice clothes and a lifetime of security, who needs to "serve" on any more public companies? God bless america and the people on whose backs he made his mint. Good piece.
